Scotweb is one of my favorite resellers when searching for goods that I am unable to obtain directly from manufacturers. Combining decent prices with an intuitive website and great customer service I have no complaints about ordering from them.

They are running a viral campaign with prizes for people who spread the word about their company. I almost never participate in chain emails or invites that encourage spreading the word, but everything I say about Scotweb is honest and if you're looking for something Scottish in nature you're unlikely to find a better place to obtain it than here.

More than a year has passed.

I know life got busy and here I am, more than a year later coming back to my blog...

I'll give a quick recap of what has happened since.

During Erwin Brother's film school which I mentioned in

a previous post. I received a call inviting me to work on a feature film. Cooper White was also invited and preparation for that quickly made us drop the Cold War Project.

September and October were spent in North Carolina working on Hero, an Advent Film Group picture which has not yet been released. I had a wonderful time with the rest of the interns on the project (who were 99% homeschooled) I have many good memories.

Following my return from that project I began to take a greater interest in my Scottish Heritage and the kilt through xmarksthescot.com. Besides historical research and study I made a number of kilts and began to study tailoring and kiltmaking. I had now committed to almost full time kilt wearing.

During last fall my Brother Luke was engaged to Grace Elizabeth Imbrock. We are very happy for them.

On into November I got a call about working for a local ad agency as a video editor. I went in for an interview which seemed positive at the time

although nothing came of it for a while. Following my interest in kiltmaking and Scottish culture I found a Scottish Country Dance group not "too" far away and have gone there for practice and social dances with my sister Grace.

In January I stood in Luke's wedding as a groomsman. That was a happy time. I also got my first kilt customer who had me make a custom kilt.

January and February there was talk of various film projects none of which I was finally able to work on due to various issues.

February I got a message from the owner of a Scottish clothing store Skye Highland Outfitters. He explained that due to business growth he was too busy to continue making a certain line of kilts and offered me the position based on photographs of my personal kilts he had seen online. I went to work then and have continued making kilts since.

My nineteenth birthday passed without any great ado. It was celebrated quietly. On into spring, my emphasis shifted more to the growing kilt business I had on my hands, and film-making has taken a back burner I did however keep up with two brothers Phillip and Andrew Bolzman who I had met working on Hero.

Fast forward a bit and I got a call-back from the ad agency explaining that they had their first project and seeing if I was still available. Not being one to pass up what could be a valuable opportunity I accepted the position and was able to recommend Phillip and Andrew to help with production.

Not to forget Restored to Glory which has featured in my blog before, This year our theme was Christmas and although I had missed the first two months of classes I got up to speed quickly in the first ever boys class. Part of the program was an old fashioned "Charles Dickens" era feel, and we danced several dances on the set of an old main street. Casting around for a way to enhance my costume I discovered that a "friend" who I had found on facebook through christianfilmmakers.org had made a tailcoat. Taking a random stab in the dark I inquired to see if I could borrow it. This led to a good friendship with Caleb Pieplow and the rest of his family. We are around the same age and both homeschooled with alot of shared interests.

Around this time I followed up my interest in all things Scottish and my experience playing Irish Whistles and bought some bagpipes.

The dance program turned out wonderful Caleb's coat fit nicely and the whole family came out to see the program. After the program we had a wonderful visit as they stayed with our family for the night. Through our conversations on many things I found that they had begun to do some English Country Dancing (very similar to Scottish) with other homeschooled families at HSA (HomeSchool Alumni) reunions.

Passing over the last few months which were filled with kiltmaking and various ins and outs of daily life. I finally began work on the videos. I have now nearly completed the first project I am glad I got to do it but I will unfortunately have to stop pursuing that work as the office is a good distance from where I live and I have had more opportunities to pursue other things now that I find more to my interest, profitably.

I upgraded to Great Highland Pipes just in time to play in a 4th of July Parade. I have enjoyed my expanded musical career and hope to be playing in weddings and for other events soon.

Just last weekend (as of this writing) I attended an HSA reunion hosted by the Pieplow family in Eastern Ohio. It was a wonderful time and I was blessed to meet other young people around my age who have similar convictions and backgrounds. The highlight of the weekend was Regency costume ball which I attended as highland gentleman I made a tartan doublet and knitted a lace jabot both of which turned out much better than I thought I could do.

Just previous to the ball I got the official invitation to the Next Advent film group movie which is a period piece set in the French and Indian war. I am really excited about the possibility and the fact that I was offered a paid position.

Beyond that I am involved in the first feature film headed up by the Bolzman brothers. That will be shooting in August.

This past year has been an amazing one in many ways that cannot be covered in such a short post. I have grown so much spiritually and my world-views have all been challenged in good ways and expanded. I have been especially blessed by all the wonderful people I met.

Filmschool Preproduction...

I am heading off to Erwin Brothers film school this weekend with Cooper White.

I'll be learning alot of things that I will hopefully be able to put into practice as we head into preproduction on our Cold War project (still untitled.)

The writing has matured to draft 7 now and we are more excited than ever about it. We do have a touch of realism to all our planning though and unless some money is raised or earned pronto the film may not go into production until next year. However, we will go ahead and cast characters, find locations, and carry on with promotional media filming and photo shoots in an effort to begin a publicity campaign that can earn us the $ to film. (right now it looks like it'll be a couple grand.)

I have a uniform already and more are on their way. I also found a local vet with a Soviet Motorcycle with German markings from the time period who has given us leave to use it for filming.

More exciting things are in store. (including an official production blog/website)

I'll try and keep you guys updated and I'll definitely give you a heads up when the site goes live.

New project

Time for a late update on current happenings. I am officially in developement/preproduction for a film yet untitled, coproduced by my good friend Cooper White. Yesterday we reached draft 1 of the script and today Cooper is adding the final touches to draft 2.

The film is planned to be around ten minutes in length, will be available online in it's entirety via youtube and vimeo. Key plot details and such will be witheld until a further date, but the setting is Cold War East Germany and it looks as if we will have a helicopter for the climax! As you can probably tell I'm pretty excited about it and I look forward to the production design challenges it will entail.

Already we have been blessed by finding costuming for the NVA at a very inexpensive rate. The owners of a major location (an abandoned 50s jail building) have been very positive about us filming there and somebody just gave me a steadicam.

As things progress further I will probably split these posts off into another blog entirely devoted to that production.

Other than this short film I have been busy making armour for a couple of the guys in the dance ministry I am a part of, practicing hard to catch up on the choreography and squeezing in more research time on ancient Egypt. I have started a draft of the Cat of Bubastes, but like all first drafts this one won't be seen by anybody but me. (and maybe my mom...)

Other than that I am looking for some part time employment to fund my filmmaking endeavours and to save up for a future. And that's about it.

Ok, I haven't posted in a while, I'll try to be good and post more updates.

I unfortunately was not able to complete my VFX shot for the set extension challenge because of winter, and a few other factors. I did submit a shot but it isn't what I had hoped to do.

I am working to complete a treatment outlining the story and characters for the Cat of Bubastes With that project I don't know that I can blog much about it (spoilers and all) so I'll just say where I'm at in the process. (If I know you well enough and you want to give me a call or shoot me an email I might be able to say a bit more (if you're sworn to secrecy and all) but in the end it's not only my project so I need to be considerate.)

Well, things have been fairly busy over the holidays I have been working with Josiah Einwechter on my entry to the 2nd cf.org VFX challenge. Hopefully I'll have time to finish that after returning from the San Antonio Filmmaker's Academy and Film Festival.

My brother Luke and I won a free ticket so we are looking forward to going.

I haven't done much with my RTG project over the Holiday but I will do some more filming as we aproach May and hopefully finish it in time for the recital dvd.

Shooting in Ft Wayne

Hi,

I just got back from a fairly involved shoot in Ft Wayne Indiana, I was shooting for my Restored to Glory project, right now they are practicing for a Christmas program to be performed on Sunday, live with the Ft Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Choir at Grace Point Church.

While I was there I got asked to be a camera "c" operator during the performance! This will be fun and a new opportunity for me. (I've only done some BTS in classes and rehearsals up until now...)

I'll try and get a short teaser of some footage up soon.

Unfortunately this project has been postponed, many of our concepts would work much better if they could be filmed in a summer out-of-doors setting. And of course, we aren't going to get that in Ohio any time soon.

On the other hand, I am working out my ideas for the cf.org VFX contest, It ought to be pretty cool...

And of course I am still researching and prepping to actually start writing on The Cat of Bubastes, for those who have read the book, Characters, settings and content are subject to changes. Count on it and you won't be disappointed.

(now where have I heard something like that before?...)

Restored to Glory

My sister and I are involved in a Christian dance ministry called Restored to Glory.

Lately, I have been filming some of the classes and rehearsals I hope to create a short behind the scenes feature for the Dvd of the recital in May. I'll post updates on this project as well...

Hello,

My brother writes music and does film scoring, he worked on Pendragon Sword of his Father in the Sound design department and also scored and mixed a short film for David Thompson of Freedom Warrior productions.

As a filmmaking excercise and for something to do when my good friend Cooper White arrives later this week we are putting together a music video for one of my brother's songs. I'll try and keep you all posted on what goes on.
